Inspired by Amy Lowell's poem The Boston Athenaeum (1912) — a love letter to a library. "For books are more than books, they are the life, the very heart and core of ages past," she wrote, "the reason why men lived, and worked, and died, the essence and quintessence of their lives." It is the truest thing anyone has said about why a shelf of books feels like company.

The design features an open book with a whole world rising out of its pages — a ship in full sail, a distant castle, wildflowers, planets and stars scattering into the air above it, with the quote lettered above and below.

Lowell was never sent to university; the women in her family weren't. She read her way through libraries instead, published her first collection at thirty-eight, and won the Pulitzer the year after she died. She knew exactly what she owed to rooms full of books, and she said so in a poem about one.
