Inspired by the opening of the Poohsticks chapter in A. A. Milne's The House at Pooh Corner. By the edge of the Forest the stream has grown up into a river, and being grown-up, it no longer runs and jumps and sparkles — it moves slowly, "for it knew now where it was going, and it said to itself, 'There is no hurry. We shall get there some day.'"
The design features a small boy and his bear leaning over the rail of the old wooden bridge, dropping twigs into the slow water below — the exact bridge where Poohsticks was invented, with a willow trailing into the river and the afternoon in no rush to end. Anyone who ever raced sticks under a bridge will recognize the moment on sight.
Milne gives the river the wisest line in the book: the little streams higher up hurry this way and that, "having so much to find out before it was too late" — but the grown river has stopped rushing, because it finally knows where it's going. Some readers need the reminder on paper; some of us wear it.
